Did you know that by turning on the subtitles whilst your child watches TV you can double the chances of your child becoming good at reading?
So, the next time your child is watching TV, there could be an opportunity to improve their reading skills at the same time!
Does turning on the subtitles actually work?
Yes, this simple change boosts kids’ reading ability and has solid evidence behind it. TOTS research shows that children generally do read captions when they’re available and that the mere presence of the words at the bottom of the screen will encourage children to read, automatically improving reading levels and enhancing spelling, grammar and vocabulary.
How to help your child...
All you have to do is turn on the subtitles during TV or tablet time. It’s that simple! You can also share this message with friends, family, and anyone in your network who has children or works with them. This quick and free tip can effortlessly turn TV time into valuable reading time.

Nursery and Pre-school places for September 2024
If you require a Pre-school (2 years olds) or Nursery (3-4year olds) place for September 2024 or know of anyone who does, please complete an application form which are available from the school office. There is also lots more information on Pre-school and Nursery on our website.
If your child is already in Pre-school and will be moving up to Nursery in September or is already in Nursery and will not be starting in Reception in 2024, you do not need to apply for a place, you will automatically be allocated a Nursery place.
Spaces are already filling up fast for September so don't delay.
